Semandex to present application of Tango to facilitate information operations with inter-agency data at the Fifth International Conference on Semantic Technologies for Intelligence, Defense, and Security (STIDS 2010) on October 27-28, 2010 - The Information Networking for Operational Reporting and Monitoring (INFORM) project was designed to facilitate collaborative analysis and workflows for elements of the U.S Marine Corps, the U.S. Special Operations Command and the U.S, Department of State. The goal of the INFORM program was to create a web-based application with these capabilities that supported Information Operations. The technical approach was to develop a semantic wiki for data capture, analysis, and display. The desired end state was the ability to link entities contained in reports, open source articles and other sources encountered by users, creating a semantic graph that helped with social media analysis rather than simply serve as a document management system. STIDS provides a forum for academia, government and industry to share the latest research on semantic technology for defense, intelligence and security applications. Formerly known as Ontology for the Intelligence Community (OIC), the conference is being broadened in scope to encompass a broad range of problems in defense, intelligence and security. Semantic technology is a fundamental enabler to achieve greater flexibility, precision, timeliness and automation of analysis and response to rapidly evolving threats. http://stids.c4i.gmu.edu/

Semandex invited to present Tango's capabilities at DeVenCi's U.S. Air Force Electronic Systems Center (ESC) Workshop held July 14-15 at Hanscom AFB, MA. - Semandex CEO, Dr. Reininger, presented an overview of Tango's capabilities to rapidly integrate and display data from multiple sources in multiple ways (on wiki page, map, live video) and produce connected intelligence compatible with existing applications and interfaces (Google Earth, Analyst's Notebook, Excel, Word; REST API).  Dr. Reininger also covered how Tango supports a user-extendable ontology, user-defined alerts, and user-tailored queries that vastly expedite intelligence to support the operations planning process.  For more information on DeVenCi visit: http://www.devenci.dtic.mil/

Semandex SWIM Baseline Delivered to USMC for Installation and Test - On May 22, 2009 the Semandex SWIM (government purpose) software baseline was delivered to USMC in Quantico, Virginia, for testing and transition into a key tactical Marine Corps Program of Record.  This baseline includes the Tango commercial software baseline, supplemented by advanced research capabilities added as part of the Office of Naval Research Large Tactical Sensor Networks (LTSN) Program.

Semandex Awarded DARPA "Data In The Wild - Video" Contract - On May 14, 2009, Semandex was awarded an extension of our "Data In The Wild" effort to also look at automated integration of video resources through the inclusion of video object ontologies and video post-processing capabilities for object extraction.  This effort is being conducted under an ongoing SBIR Phase II effort, administered by the National Library of Medicine, National Institute of Health.

Semandex Teams With START for US Data Integration Project - As the sole commercial partner under the DHS-sponsored US Data Integration Project, Semandex presented Tango semantic technology and transition strategies at the project Kick-off, held at the University of Arkansas on May 12-13, 2009.  The project is led by the DHS Center of Excellence for Studies of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) at the University of Maryland, and includes academic partners from the University of Arkansas, John Jay College, Michigan State University, University of Oklahoma, and the University of Maryland.  The project will focus on integration of the large data collections of the consortium members related to US domestic terrorism, as well as additional studies in areas such as outcomes of policy decisions with respect to levels of violence.

Semandex Briefs US SOCOM on Connected Intelligence - Sponsored by the US SOCOM TILO Office, Semandex presented Tango use cases in the areas of Contingency Planning, Identity Management, and Civil Affairs on May 5, 2009.  Use of the Tango Semantic Wiki for human/computer collaboration provides a key new capability in the search for improved methods to address the various mission needs.  Copies of the briefing can be made available through our Knowledge Center.

Semandex Joins ACIN Consortium - On January 15, 2009, Semandex became an official member of the Applied Communications and Information Networking (ACIN) Consortium, located in Camden, NJ. The ACIN Technology Center is America’s first small business accelerator serving the US Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security. Established in 2001 through a contract between the US Army and Drexel University, the mission of the ACIN Technology Center is to identify small businesses and technologies that make information delivery faster, more secure, and more flexible. They are focused on Applied Communications and Information Networking technology that provides benefits to the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security either leveraging COTS technology or with the potential for commercial development.
